Nordmann Fir
A tall, narrow evergreen conifer of great ornamental value, Abies nordmanniana – also known as Caucasian Fir – has graceful sweeping branches, which yield very attractive 15-20 cm long cones. As a tall growing tree, the Nordmann fir needs a relatively large garden, however this tree is also one of our best and popular varieties for growing as a Christmas tree with its soft, dark green, non-shedding needles. It is fairly quick growing and generally disease resistant.
Growing as a Christmas tree:
Increasingly popular as a cut tree in Ireland. Compared to Norway Spruce it has little fragrance but it crucially retains its needles for longer. The trees, which were originally found in south Russia, have a reliably symmetrical shape and dark green broad needles. The foliage is soft and glossy, which make it child-friendly.
