Butterfly Bush Summer Beauty
A Dutch-bred cultivar, Buddleja davidii Summer Beauty is a medium-sized, fast-growing deciduous shrub with an upright, arching habit, well known for attracting butterflies and bees. The long, lance-shaped leaves are silvery grey-green. The richly scented, nectar-rich flowers are deep rose-pink, borne in conical panicles 8”/20cm long. Dead-heading will encourage flowering into the autumn, although the first flush, in July, is the best. Butterfly bush Summer Beauty is a very good, adaptable, easy plant, ideal for the back of the border, and can be cut back hard in early spring if necessary; the plant will still flower, but later, which is better for the butterflies!
