Festuca glauca
From the south of France, Festuca glauca is a small, clump-forming, evergreen, cool-season grass forming dense clumps. Arching, linear, steel-blue leaves are soft to the touch; fresh, clear blue growth appears in spring. Pretty, slender, blue flowering spikes appear in early summer; these turn hay-coloured, and can be removed to preserve the clear blue effect. Blue Fescue is an asy, low-maintenance structural plant, perfect for a minimalist planting scheme, but also lovely as a specimen, contrasting with perennial flowers, or for rockeries. Needs sharp drainage and colours best on poor soils.
