Hydrangea Dark Angel
A very floriferous, fairly compact lacecap hydrangea in the Black Diamonds series, Hydrangea macrophylla Dark Angel is a medium-sized, deciduous shrub with an upright, bushy habit. The toothed, oval leaves are deeply veined, deep green flushed burgundy-bronze, setting off the flowers well. From July to September, lacecap flowers are carried in profusion, the flat cluster of small reddish-purple fertile florets surrounded by open reddish-purple sterile florets with cream centres. The colour varies slightly with soil pH, and intensifies with age. Hydrangea Dark Angel, being so compact, does well in a (well-watered) container.
